The big tree
Tradition and solidarity - Place kléber
A little advice from Strasbourg
Enjoy a "soupe étoilée" (star soup) under the Grand Sapin! For more than 10 years, the Humanis collective of solidarity associations has been organising the "soupe étoilée": particularly tasty recipes, prepared and served by star chefs from the region.
The purchase of these soups supports Humanis' solidarity projects, such as its employment integration project. To find out more about the programme and points of sale : The "soupe étoilée" (star soup)
At the heart of the city, Place Kléber is a crossroads for all the inhabitants of Strasbourg. It has all the ingredients of Strasbourg's Christmas Capital: solidarity, enchantment, arts and crafts, and a friendly atmosphere with a dedicated area where you can sit down and enjoy a delicious Alsatian speciality.
You'll find the Village du Partage (Sharing Village) at the foot of the great Christmas Tree. 90 associations are taking turns to promote the values of solidarity, fraternity and humanism in the spirit of Christmas. You can make responsible purchases, contribute to solidarity collections and take part in community events.
At the Aubette, you can pick up some precious souvenirs from another century, second-hand objects and handcrafted gifts. From November 24 to December 1, le Noël des Brocanteurs takes place. From 9 December to 23 December, OZ, the arts and crafts Christmas, will be taking place. The perfect opportunity to (re)discover the talent of local artists and craftspeople!
The great Christmas tree
Standing in the heart of the square, the Grand Sapin is one of the symbols of Strasbourg as Christmas Capital. Every year, the public follow its journey from the forests of the Vosges to Strasbourg, like a breathless TV show! Cutting, transporting, placing on the square, decorating... everything is observed with a magnifying glass, announcing as early as October the imminent arrival of the eagerly awaited annual event. At the foot of the square, an enchanting setting lets you immerse yourself in a privileged setting, for the time of a dream or a pretty photo.
This year, the tree is decorated with the 2023 emblem: the heart. It's decorated with garlands of pearls, glowing candles, red baubles, kelsch hearts, wicker stars and cross-stitched snowflakes. The various decorative elements symbolise the warmth of Christmas homes, the magic of the city, and the generosity and solidarity that we share during this time of year.
As in previous years, the removal of the tree and the decorative elements have been designed with eco-responsibility in mind, using recyclable materials. Moreover, a number of social economy associations and enthusiastic craftsmen were involved in their manufacture: the Hélène de Coeur association, Inclusiv C'CITE and ESAT Caramentis.
Join us every day, every hour between 4pm and 9pm, to discover the musical awakening of the Grand Sapin. The Grand Sapin comes from a sustainably managed forest. The Office National des Forêts works on a daily basis to ensure the vitality of the forests and strengthen their ability to adapt to climate change. Find out more about the Grand Sapin.
