From November 27th to December 27th, 2024

Let's take time to marvel with Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas

Vidéo lancement 27/11/2024

As the opening of Strasbourg Capitale de Noël approaches, 100 Strasbourg residents who are working to make the event a success gathered at the foot of the Grand Sapin, Place Kléber. Hand in hand, they formed a huge luminous heart around the tree, a symbol of unity and sharing.

In a magical atmosphere, illuminated by smiles and amazed looks, the Grand Sapin was adorned with its thousand lights, transforming Place Kléber into a truly magical setting. A moment full of emotion and brilliance, where tradition and the authentic spirit of Christmas shone in perfect harmony.

texte intro 2024

The 2024 edition of Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas, is themed "The Time to Marvel," embodied by a giant book that promises a magical immersion in Christmas traditions closely tied to tales and stories. This choice clearly resonates with the designation of Strasbourg as the UNESCO World Capital of Books for 2024. Since April 23, 2024, Strasbourg has been celebrating the richness of literature, writing, and the joy of reading.

The city is thus rolling out its "Read Our World" programme, featuring nearly 1,000 events and activities with more than 400 partners, across all neighbourhoods. Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas 2024, is an invitation to (re)discover the city in a dual light: that of the festive illuminations and that of the cultural wealth that stirs the very soul of the city.

Program of the Advent Village

Program of the Advent Village

Published on 6 December 2024 Modified on 6 December 2024

Throughout the duration of Strasbourg Capitale de Noël, the Square Louise Weiss transforms into an enchanting place: the Village of Advent sets up for a month of conviviality and sharing.

Once again this year, the Village of Advent brings the Christmas spirit to life with a participatory and friendly programme composed of performances, creative workshops, and storytelling, all set in the heart of a magical place filled with Christmas trees and traditional chalets.

Around this miniature village, a multitude of performances and workshops bring the location to life: the afternoons are marked by the voices of storytellers, the fabulous tales performed on stage, and a variety of creative workshops.

This year, reading and storytelling take centre stage. It will be possible to discover some specific traditions of German Christmas with contributions from Stuttgart on the 4th and 5th of December, and from Dresden on the 18th and 19th of December. The Village of Advent embraces the Anglo-Saxon spirit with the participation of local associations, including "Alsace – United States" on the 11th and 12th of December. A special reading corner will be set up to discover Christmas books, legends, and winter tales in French, German, and English.

Outside, a book cabin invites you to read, for every story shared with a child or family member creates unforgettable memories and forges deep connections for a better future.

Find the full programme on our dedicated Village of Advent page.
