Tradition - Places de la cathédrale et du château

A little advice from Strasbourg

If you're feeling adventurous, climb the 332 steps to the Cathedral platform, where you can admire a panoramic view of the city. If you're feeling curious, the first floor of the 5e Lieu houses a free permanent exhibition on Strasbourg's heritage, with a breathtaking view of the surrounding chalets.

In the Middle Ages, even before the emergence of Chrìstkìndelsmärik, Strasbourg was home to a "Klausenmärik" or St Nicholas market. It was held on the Place de la Cathédrale around 6 December. Stalls selling gingerbread and other sweets, as well as herbalists, saddlers, haberdashers and haberdashers.

The chalets have now spread all the way to the Place du Château, on the cobblestones of this town centre surrounded by magnificent Vosges pink sandstone buildings at the foot of the Cathedral, but also a few steps away in the Rue des Hallebardes and Rue Gutenberg. Here you'll find traditional Christmas crafts (candles, Bredle, decorations, hot drinks...). It's the ideal place to find a souvenir of your visit to the market, to give as a present or to treat yourself.
