Commemoration of the 2018 terrorist attack

Commemoration of the 2018 terrorist attack

Published on 8 December 2023

On 11 December 2018, an attack killed 5 people and injured 11 others at the heart of Strasbourg's Christmas Market. Five years later, on Monday 11 December 2023, a number of events are planned to commemorate this tragic event.

Several homage events will punctuate this day of commemoration. With two months to go before the start of the trial, these high points are intended to bring together the victims and the people of Strasbourg to meet again and heal this trauma together.

Official ceremony

The day of commemoration will open with an official ceremony at 9.30am in Place de la République. Victims and their families will be present alongside local elected representatives, government officials and two ministers, before proceeding to the Hôtel de la Préfecture and then the Hôtel de Ville. They will then be invited to a preparatory session for the trial, two months before it opens in February 2024.

From 5.30pm, photos of the words of support left in the days following the attack will be projected onto the Palais Rohan.

Homage concert

On Monday evening, for the second year running, the victims' association "From Tears to Smiles" is organizing a homage concert starting at 7pm at the Palais des Congrès et de la Musique. On the program: artists Luc Arbogast, Alfonso Nsangu-Cornu from the Gospel Kids, the vocal ensemble Catharsis Queen, the musical group Sin Corap and the choir from La Providence secondary school, as well as a class from the René Cassin secondary school, who will be presenting work they have done in class.

Victim support associations will be set up in the lobby to listen to victims' concerns and provide support to those who need it.

Admission to the concert is open to all, with a reservation.
