Christmas Market at Notre-Dame Cathedral Square

In the Middle Ages, even before the “Chrìstkìndelsmärik” emerged, Strasbourg hosted a “Klausenmärik,” or St Nicholas market. It was then located on Cathedral Square and took place around December 6. The stalls of chandlers, gingerbread sellers, and other confectioners stood alongside the shops of herbalists, saddlers, rag traders, and haberdashers.

The chalets have now spread as far as Place du Château, across the cobblestones of this city center, surrounded by magnificent buildings of pink Vosges sandstone at the foot of the Cathedral.
