The Christmas tree and lights
Standing tall in the centre of the square, the Grand Sapin is one of the symbols of Strasbourg, the Christmas Capital. Every year, the public follows its journey from the forests of the Vosges to Strasbourg, like a thrilling soap opera! Felling, transport, installation in the square, decoration... everything is closely scrutinised and, from October onwards, heralds the imminent arrival of the eagerly awaited annual event. At its foot, a magical setting allows you to immerse yourself in a special atmosphere, whether for a moment of reverie or a pretty photo.
- Christmas culture and tradition
Erected in the heart of Place Kléber, the Grand Sapin, a powerful symbol of Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas, embodies the true values of the season: bringing people together, inspiring wonder, and sharing traditions. This year, its decoration around the wreath reflects an authentic and supportive Christmas, inviting the city to embrace the festive spirit.
The Grand Sapin’s decoration revolves around four key symbols and values: the candle for hope, the dove for peace, the Alsatian house for conviviality, and the kelsch heart for love. Inspired by the universe of Alsatian artist Dôriane, additional decorations evoke nature and Alsatian Christmas tales: wooden puppets, holly branches, pinecones, and mistletoe. At the base of the tree, four doors adorned with Advent wreaths celebrate hospitality and sharing, inviting everyone to step into the magic of the season.
Continuing the eco-friendly approach of previous years, the design of the tree and its decorations prioritizes sustainability, using recyclable materials and local expertise: the kelsch hearts are made by the Hélène de Cœur association, the wicker wreaths by Inclusiv C’CITE, and the wooden decorations by the Sonnenhof Foundation (Bischwiller and Reichshoffen workshops).
The Grand Sapin will be illuminated from November 26 to January 5, 2026. Experience the musical and light awakening of the Grand Sapin every day, every hour from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and without music from 10:00 PM to midnight.
