Security measures
With visitor numbers to the Christmas markets continuing to rise, new security measures are being implemented, structured across several levels of intervention.
Measures Applied Throughout the Christmas Market Period
Strasbourg Cathedral, located at the crossroads of several visitor flows, has changed its access to the building. Entry and exit to the Cathedral are now only possible via the south façade, from Place du Château (except for exit from the platform).
Additional Measures in the Event of Peak Attendance (Saturdays and Sundays)
In the event of high visitor numbers on Saturdays and Sundays, additional measures will be implemented.
Every weekend from 1 p.m.
- Rue du Maroquin towards Rue de la Grande Boucherie.
- Rue de l'Outre towards Place des Étudiants.
On the recommendation of internal security forces in the event of congestion risk
- Rue des Orfèvres: from Rue des Hallebardes to Place du Temple-Neuf.
- Rue des Dominicains: from Place du Temple Neuf to Rue des Grandes Arcades.
The seating areas on Place Kléber are being removed.
Exceptional Measures in the Event of Very High Attendance
- Temporary closure of the Homme de Fer tram stop to slow down the influx of new visitors.
- Introduction of one-way traffic on Rue Mercière: from the Cathedral towards Rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons.
- Temporary closure of certain footbridges.
These measures are designed to ensure that the magic of your visit remains intact and safe. We warmly thank you for your understanding and cooperation, which are key to a successful celebration.
During the opening hours of the Market (11:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.), large bags are checked at the entrances. If there is a short wait, feel free to use the next access point on your right or left — it’s never far away!
The Christmas Market is spread across several squares. There is no fixed route to follow: simply head towards the chalets that catch your eye and wander freely to soak up the magic of Strasbourg, the Capital of Christmas!
