Local and Sustainable: Toy Stores in Strasbourg

Published on 22 November 2024 Modified on 27 November 2024

For the delight of children, head to the toy stores!

Several independent, local stores, or those committed to French and responsible manufacturing, offer a wide selection of toys in Strasbourg.

Sustainable Concept Stores for Children

La Tribu is a recent concept store, opened in 2023 and located at 8 rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Grains in Strasbourg (close to Place Kléber). It is dedicated to the world of childhood and, more broadly, to the whole family. A candy bar, a section for comforters, creative hobbies, decorations, and - of course, during this season - Christmas elves and Advent calendars, are all carefully arranged and organised in a beautiful 200m² space.

Terre d’Ours is a concept store located at 8 rue du Bouclier in the Petite France district. It offers a selection of plush toys, comforters, dolls, and high-end newborn gifts. "The craftsmanship of the finest plush artisans" is its promise, in this soothing space that prioritises sustainable materials that are environmentally friendly.

Mes deux pieds sur terre, at 10 rue Sainte-Madeleine, offers a concept store focusing on physiological babywearing and barefoot shoes.

Mom Pop, located at 106 Grand Rue, offers a shop centred around children and expectant mothers, with products focusing on toys, childcare items, and bedroom equipment, all within an eco-responsible and local framework.

Shops Dedicated to Reading and Educational Games

The French brand Bonhomme de Bois, located on rue du 22 Novembre in Strasbourg, offers natural wooden toys, as well as books, plush toys, and educational games, for children from birth up to the age of 10.

La Bouquinette has been Strasbourg’s specialist children’s bookstore since 1977, located on rue des Juifs. You will find games and activities for children here: story readings, meet-and-greets with authors, and craft workshops.

Two Philibert stores are located in the heart of Strasbourg: Philibert at 12 rue de la Grange, and Philibert Collectible Cards at 10 Place Kléber. They offer board games, role-playing games, classic games, card games, miniature games, and more. In 2019, Philibert launched the Philibar, a game bar where you can discover the latest releases over a drink and a light snack.

In Neudorf, the small shop Des étoiles plein les jeux also offers a wide selection of board games, organised by age. It is located at 8 rue de la Thumenau and is open from Wednesday to Saturday, from 10:30 to 18:30.

Second-Hand Toy Shops

Hidden gems can also be found in Strasbourg’s second-hand toy shops. The Eurometropole of Strasbourg has an agreement with the Federation of Charity, which supports Carijou, the solidarity toy shop located on Rue du Faubourg National, for its "Atelier Chantier d’insertion" missions. It offers toys for low-income individuals while creating jobs. A second Carijou shop opened this year at 50 route des Romains in the Koenigshoffen district, offering a selection of second-hand toys and plush toys. This shop is also shared with another second-hand retailer, Vetis, which specialises in women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing.

Toys are also sold at the Strasbourg Christmas Market, as well as at the Marché OFF.

A perfect way to fill Father Christmas’s sack this year… with sustainable toys!
