Inauguration of Strasbourg, Capital of ChristmasPublished on 25 November 2021
On Friday, November 26 at 2 p.m., the stalls assembled on the different Christmas markets will open their doors to share with you their gourmet delights and exceptional pieces.
At 7 p.m., the Great Christmas tree on Place Kléber will light up and with it the whole city will be dressed in lights. For this year's Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas, Strasbourg residents will be taking part in switching on the lights. Together, let’s light up the stars!
“For as long as the stars have lit up the hills and plains of Alsace, there have been legendary figures whom we summon each time that we turn on a light: the ‘star lighters.’ Mischievous show-offs, they use their gift of the gab to whip up the crowd and succeed in lighting up our stars.”
Five star lighters and all the professional or amateur volunteer choir members who have taken part in the participatory choir rehearsals will form a procession to illuminate the whole city.
This procession will leave from Sainte Madeleine bridge on Friday, November 26 at 5.30 p.m. and make its way to Place Kléber, where the Great Christmas tree will entirely light up on the arrival of these star lighters, marking the opening of Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas and these four weeks of wonder and magic.
