Christmas activities at the Musée Alsacien
Published on 9 November 2022The Musée Alsacien (Alsatian museum) is located on the Quai Saint Nicolas, right in the historical centre of Strasbourg and is a celebration of Alsatian arts and popular traditions, with an impressive display of Christmas finery at year end.
Visitors can explore homes of all shapes and sizes from the city’s bygone days, linked by stairways and wooden walkways. Exhibits include thousands of objects reflecting life in rural Alsace in the 18th and 19th centuries, including traditional costumes, furniture, ceramics, toys and religious and secular art.
Come Christmas, the museum stages a number of unusual activities:
- Decorating the Christmas tree, from yesteryear to now. 26 November and 3, 10 and 17 December, from 2:30 PM to 5 PM. A workshop for all the family, suitable for anyone over the age of 4, subject to availability.
- Christmas in Alsace an introduction to local traditions: 27 November, and 11 and 18 December at 3 PM.
- Museums for all?! : students of the University of Strasbourg take over the museum and walk you round the collections and exhibits. 4 December, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, free of charge.
Please note that the Musée Alsacien will be open 6 days a week during the Christmas period, every day except Tuesday, from 10 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 6 PM, from 25 November to 24 December 2022.
